In my own career(s), I’ve received countless opportunities simply by saying “Wow, I’m so flattered, thank you!,” when men and women wanted to introduce me to people whom I personally deemed above my pay-grade. That introduction in no way promised a new job the introduction promised nothing but opportunity. Note: I simply wanted to introduce my friend to a potentially influential contact. I wanted to introduce her to the friend of a friend, working at a company that I thought would be an excellent transition for my friend. Years ago, for example, I was a party with a friend whom I knew hated her job. No one can sabotage you like you can, namely, because no one else cares.
